FREQS 3
Here’s my third instalment for FREQS radio and includes music from Djrum, Shed, Sleeparchive, Deadbeat, Tikiman and Andrea.
Towards the end of the mix I’ve included We Must Win, an emotively powerful poem by Amir Sulaiman, a US hip-hop recording artist, poet and producer. Essentially written as a protest against racial discrimination in the US and the very present struggle for black Americans in American society. Somehow though, the poem has a wider resonance about all the injustices going on around the world at the moment, particularly relevant with the violence towards, and displacement of Palestinians in their homeland. I’ve set this poem to two tunes, Al Wootton’s remix of 278 Dub on Aria Aperta, from Big Hands and Abraham Parker, and Dub Tractors beautiful W30, a much loved tune of mine. I often think of my brother Jonny Cole when I play this record.

Si Cole’s been collecting records for several decades since his early foray into early ambient Brian Eno albums on the Editions EG label.
A natural path was soon discovered in the early dub techno days, a sound created out of Berlin, fusing minimal techno structures with the space echo effects of Jamaican dub reggae. Alongside this, his interests lie in many forms of electronica that nowadays has spilled into multi genre music in all its forms, from classical, world, jazz to straight up techno.
For Freqs radio he wishes to play old and new stuff, be unconventional with his mixes and not worry too much about sticking to a straight path but instead throw in, probably all over the place, some different stuff.
