Goa Sunsplash Live – Rasta, Conscious, percussion driven…
DAN WILTSHIRE One Love Festival / One Sun | UK For nearly three decades, Dan Wiltshire has moved between reggae sound-system culture, underground clubs, Balearic beats and electronic music, building a musical identity that refuses to be confined by genre. His journey began with Bob Marley and a childhood fascination with Jamaican music, growing into teenage years collecting sound-system cassette recordings, dubplates and tapes of legendary dances and clashes. At the same time, the emerging sounds of acid house, ambient, breaks and early electronic music opened another musical world. By the late 1990s, Dan was immersed in London’s underground club scene, DJing under the name The Red Eye and promoting nights at Brixton institutions Dogstar and Mass. Alongside Neil Kindness and Lol Hammond, he established Being Creative, working across a thriving network of club nights and underground music communities. A season in Ibiza in 2002 deepened his love of Balearic culture, where reggae, dub, ambient, house and psychedelic electronics could coexist without boundaries. His DJ journey subsequently took him beyond the UK, with appearances at Glastonbury Festival, Bestival Bali, Goa Sunsplash in India, and international performances across Europe and Asia, including a tour of Southeast Asia alongside legendary reggae selector Earl Gateshead. In 2008, Dan founded One Love Festival, creating a dedicated reggae and dub camping weekender that would become one of the UK’s best-known gatherings for Jamaican music and British sound-system culture. Although rooted in reggae, One Love always reflected Dan’s wider musical tastes. Its inaugural programme included Smith & Mighty, Robert Miles, Nicky Holloway, Nostalgia 77 and Lol Hammond’s Drum Monkeys, establishing an electronic connection that continued through artists such as The Orb, A Guy Called Gerald, Mixmaster Morris, Fabio & Grooverider, Congo Natty, Ray Keith and The Grid. That musical crossover now finds a dedicated home in One Sun, the electronic counterpart to One Love, exploring everything from ambient and Balearic sounds to acid, dub, breaks, jungle, drum & bass and leftfield electronics. As a DJ, Dan remains drawn to the spaces between genres — where Jamaican bass culture meets psychedelic electronics, where Balearic freedom meets underground dance music, and where forgotten records find new life. A lifelong vinyl enthusiast, his selections are shaped by decades spent collecting music, programming festivals, travelling and sharing dancefloors with some of the most influential figures in reggae and electronic culture. Reggae at the roots. Electronic music in the bloodstream. Nearly three decades inside the dance.
